3 Key Ways to Set Realistic Goals
One question! Why should you set a goal bro?
You could still do the things you love to do but if you want to progress in life, you have to set realistic goals! Goals take us forward in life! A goal is the start of every journey and also the end of every successful journey.
Setting a goal is really important for a productive and successful life. But, how will setting a goal help you?
- Setting goals make you to focus better. So that you perform your tasks much better
- Goals serve the purpose of motivation. Maybe you want to build a great physique, paint a great picture, write an article, or whatever it may be, goals give you the motivation to perform.
- Goals allow you to measure your progress! Nobody sets a goal without the end in mind. If there’s no victorious ending to your story, then you basically haven’t set a goal. Once you set a goal, it becomes easier to track how closer you are to the finish line.
Here is how you can set realistic goals:
1. Be specific
When you set a goal, you need to be very specific about what you want to achieve. What do I mean by setting specific goals?
You see, you have got people around you saying that they want a well-paying job, a car, a big house, enough bank balance, and so on. These are not goals but desires. And what’s interesting is that your desires can actually be converted into goals by making them specific.
So, instead of saying that you want a well-paying job, you could say that you want a job at Microsoft or any other company or whatever the position you are looking for. Instead of saying you want a car, make it specific, name the car, and say that you want a Ford Mustang, a Porsche, and so on.
Of course, you cannot make your goals specific every time. What I mean by this is that you cannot say, “I want to be so happier in life or on a scale of 1-10 of happiness, I want to be at 9 or 10.” That’s impractical!
2. Deadline is important
Set a deadline. Setting a deadline for your goal is crucial.
It makes you work towards achieving your goal and as the deadline approaches, you really begin working your ass off.
3. They Should Sound Positive
Set positive goals. Try making your goals sound positive. Instead of just saying that you want to quit your habit of smoking, you could say, you want to eat better, exercise better and quit smoking.
Tell yourself that you are going to make a positive change in your life by introducing positive activities in your life.
